Genesis Six Lab

Dr. Charli Stanwick became a doctor to change the world. Project Joy was her chance, despite eighty-four years of failed experiments in human regeneration.

When convicted murderer Thomas Evers was executed by lethal injection, he should have been another corpse on a laboratory table. But his body didn't just heal. It transformed.

Project Joy is more than a medical breakthrough. The U.S. military sees a weapon. Societas Arcanorum recognizes the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy. And billionaire Leon Spicer wants to harness its power at any cost.

Charli believes her work could end disease, perhaps even hold the secret to defeating death. Yet with every day that passes, the unnatural force inside Thomas grows stronger, and his humanity slips further away.

The closer she gets to him, the harder it becomes to separate what she must do from what she wants.

If he becomes a monster, the last hope of a better future dies with him.

THE STORY

I first imagined R4G3 more than twenty-five years ago. To say the idea has been simmering would be an understatement. The story grew out of a fantasy world shaped by countless late nights of role-playing with friends, games, and dreams. I thought it would be fascinating to merge fantasy with where I live, which is how Ybor City became woven into that vision.

This isn’t a single hero’s tale but an ensemble story told through multiple points of view, each character with a distinct voice, arc, and secret. Why? Because that’s life. You may stand at the center of your story, but you’re entangled in the lives unfolding around you. That multiplicity draws the reader into the characters at the Genesis Six lab. Some you’ll love, others you’ll despise—but each has more than meets the eye.

My aim is to blend suspense, science fantasy, and mythology into a world that grows darker the longer you look. It’s a cerebral read, layered with subtle details that reward close attention. A second read may reveal more, yet the main plot remains accessible the first time.

I’ll see you somewhere between reality and the world behind the world.

THE COVER

Here are my favorite questions I asked award-winning illustrator Alejandro Colucci about his work on R4G3. Alejandro created the front and back covers, as well as a two-page interior spread. He has created artwork for hundreds of fantasy, horror, science fiction, and crime publications, including books by Anne Rice, Robin Hobb, Isaac Asimov, Ursula K. Le Guin, Andrzej Sapkowski, and Joe Abercrombie.

For indie authors, the opportunity to work with artists of this caliber can be difficult to come by, so I feel incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with Alejandro and to have seen him bring such a distinctive creature to life.
